An elementary school classes will study selected animals from the zoo. The students will visit the zoo, takedigital photos and video, and create MovieMaker videos or PhotoStory narrated slide shows about the animals, to be posted on Audubon's website.

2010 - 2011 Project Ideas


1. Animal/Insect Biographies Students study animals at the zoo, aquarium, or insectarium, and create descriptions and podcasts about the animals to be posted on the Audubon Institute's website.

2. Glogster Project Students create glogsters using the animal biographies described above.

3. Day in the Life of a Zoo Keeper/Aquarist/Entomologist Students will visit the zoo and follow a zookeeper behind the scenes to learn about a zookeeper's day to day experiences with different animals. The students will work in teams to create a video documentary about their visit, using video and digital photography. The documentaries will be posted on the zoo's website.

4. Entergy IMAX Theatre Middle and/or high school Students will Skype with a movie critic to obtain tips of the profession.
The finished project will be a movie review of the IMAX movie Hurricane on the Bayou.

Project 1 - Zoo Animal Biographies

Project Description

Students will work in teams to research information about zoo animals, including biographical information about a specific animal that lives in the zoo, such as the animal's name, how long it has lived at the zoo, and the animal's family history. Students will visit the zoo, learn about the animal and its history, take photos, and add the information to the zoo's website. The students will also create a narrated Photo Story using photos from the zoo field trip.
